Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Hosts Riveting Lecture titled ‘Faiz and Palestine’ on Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s 114 Birthday Anniversary
Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi organized a special lecture titled “Faiz and Palestine” at the Haseena Moin Hall on the occasion of the 114th birth anniversary of the eminent poet, critic, and scholar Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
The lecture was presided over by the renowned literary figure Professor Sahar Ansari. Meanwhile the duty of Moderator was performed by distinguished poetess Ambareen Haseeb Ambar. The ceremony commenced with a poignant recitation of Faiz’s beautiful verses in solidarity with Palestine by Shakil Khan, the Director Administration of the Arts Council.
Professor Sahar Ansari, while addressing the gathering, lauded Faiz Sahib as a towering personality. “I have also penned an article on Faiz which is included in my book. Faiz Sahib once said that there should be an institution established for writers, which could gather scattered writers in one place,” he added.
During his lecture, Dr. Jafar Ahmed highlighted Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s unique identity, emphasizing his profound empathy for the plight of Palestine. “Faiz Ahmed Faiz, familiar with the sorrows of the world, keenly felt the pain of Palestine. Besides love, societal issues and politics were the themes of his poetry. He also emphasized the condition of Israel.
He said the structures of Israel have turned into ruins; I am saddened by the corpses of children. The Pakistani government, as usual, is keeping an eye on the situation,” he expressed. Writers, poets, and scholars have raised their voices in various ways for the rights of Palestine.
Faiz Sahib had multiple connections with the Arab world through numerous references. He embarked on writing poetry in the Arabic language during his academic years. The ceremony also included cutting a cake to commemorate the 114th birth anniversary of Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
