4th Women’s Conference organized by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi has ended with a splash. In the conference, various sessions were held regarding the struggle of women for their rights, problems and problems faced in the society and their solutions.
On second day of women conference session “Working Women: Struggle and Achievements”, “Women Education”, “Women’s Movements in Pakistan: Achievements and Challenges”, “Women’s Health (Reproductive Rights and Issues, Mental Health and Wellness)”, “Women in Featuring sessions on “Role of Media”, were held. Women’s conference concluded with a dance performance by Sheema Kermani and a spectacular musical performance by ACMA The Band. On the second day of the 4th Women’s Conference, the session on “Women’s Education” was presided over by Zubaida Mustafa, Naheed Shah Durrani, Dr. Jafar Ahmed, Dr. Tariq Rafi, Sadiqa Salahuddin, Zakia Sarwar, Ijaz Farooqui discussed the topic while Fouzia Khan perform the duties of moderator. Zubaida Mustafa said that we need to think about what the child needs, we need to make the education system so that the child takes an interest. From the beginning we should provide good books and we should teach in our own language so that it can be easily understood. Dr. Jafar Ahmed said that nowadays the trend of studying and teaching in schools and colleges is decreasing, teachers say that our salary is low and we cannot run our house, tuition packages are given two and four months before the exam. she said that now laboratories have been built in tuition, I think we should consider this matter, it is necessary to teach in tuition centers, there may be a way out of it and we should take it out, Sadiqa Salahuddin said that we should introduce a uniform education system, schools are in a bad condition, I think you should start emergency education now for girls. The story of education is very sad, in the tents that were set up for the flood victims, the interest of the children who came to study could be seen, we need to improve the education system to create a literate society. Prof. Zakia Sarwar said that the desire of many women to go to college and school could not be fulfilled, our society is very bad, our government have to play an important role in the field of education, recruit educated teachers so that the quality of education can be improved, women should be given their place in the society. Naheed Shah Durrani while talking said that even after 75 years of struggle in Pakistan, this situation is still there. Currently, almost 40% of children are out of school, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China have paid much attention to education in spite of poverty in 40 years and the result is in front of you today, we are not serious about educating girls, we have to gain the trust of parents, we need to improve the education system. Dr. Tariq Rafi said that the number of women in the education field is very high, 70% of children get scholarship. Yes, 60% of those admitted belong to the middle class, girls are interested in studying, our government needs to change the policy made regarding jobs, a boy’s medical college is also being built in Karachi. He said that a girl being educated creates a positive change in the society, Ijaz Farooqui said that if uneducated people come to our Senate and Assemblies, the quality of education will not improve. We have to change our mindset.
